Pizza Build Is A Success!

First of all, we'd like to say a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who purchased our yummy pizzas and also to those who helped build them!  Together, we were able to build and deliver around 500 pizzas!

So, this got me wondering.  Pizza is a staple in the US, but what do the Haitian people like?  I did a little searching and found that a dish native to Haiti is rice djon-djon (jon-JON). Although, the most common dish is rice and beans as it is most affordable and readily accessible to the Haitians.  Rice djon-djon utilizes Haitian black mushrooms.

I found this youtube video with step by step instructions.  So who is adventurous enough to serve this dish at your holiday table?!  I think I might just have to give it a try.

If you do, please post comments to the blog!

As you visit with your families and reflect on all the things you are thankful for, please remember to keep Haiti in your prayers.

Happy Thansksgiving!

YAY for school!

It's November folks!  A month when schools are busy.  Halloween is over, Thanksgiving is coming, and TESTING is here.  For those with school-aged children, you know what I'm talking about.  Between October 24th and November 25th, all Wisconsin public schools are required by law to test all students in grades 3-8 and 10.  Needless to say, students dread this yearly event.

However, when it's easy to think of what we don't like about school, children and families in Haiti struggle to receive an education.  In a recent report, Haiti's president has vowed to put free public education as a top priority!  Something that in America, we often take for granted.    But until change happens in Haiti, parents struggle to educate their children.

Did you know:
Half of all Haitians are illiterate.
Annual income is $400usd

How lucky we are to educate our children.  Even if they have to go through testing!

Lord, thank you for the education I have received, thank you that my children are able to receive an education.  Please give the new Haitian goverment the desire, resources, and ambition to provide an education to their people.  Amen

The object of education is to prepare the young to educate themselves throughout their lives.
